Q: How is stress affecting my relationships?

Here's the Answer

Stress can derail you in so many ways, including how you feel about the significant relationships in your life. You’re disconnected, and more irritable. You either want to isolate completely, or you engage in “oxytocin-seeking” behaviors such as binge shopping, eating, or drinking as a way to soothe your stress. That makes sense because when oxytocin goes up, cortisol goes down and can better manage stress – however we can all agree that binge behaviors are not a healthy solution to stress management, nor are they good for your long-term relationships.

Better stress management techniques include loving intimacy and connection, massage, self-care, laughter, playing with a pet, swinging on a swing … all of these are oxytocin producers.
